Key 9th Edition Florida Building Code Changes
Structural & HVHZ Requirements
Section 1711 introduces updated corrosion-resistance requirements for certain fasteners, ties, and metal plates within 3,000 feet of saltwater. The code also updates requirements for metal hip and ridge roof covers and requires mechanical fastening for drip edges at four inches on center statewide.
HVAC & A2L Refrigerants
Systems using A2L refrigerants must meet updated safety requirements associated with ASHRAE 15, including provisions for refrigerant detection and ventilation. Commercial heating boilers from 1 to 10 MBtu/h also have updated efficiency requirements, including a 90% thermal efficiency requirement.
Energy & Plumbing
The residential performance path now has an e-Ratio limit of ≤ 0.85, along with changes to duct-testing requirements. Commercial projects have 39 energy credit options under Section C406.
Plumbing updates include NSF 372 low-lead requirements for potable fixtures and a 2.0 gpm limit for standard showerheads.
